  • TPP Agreement Signed, Rice Concerns Remain

    Trade Ministers from 12 nations signed the Trans Pacific Partnership Agreement yesterday (Feb. 4 local time). U.S. Trade Representative Michael Froman joined officials from Australia, Brunei, Canada, Chile, Japan, Malaysia, Mexico, New Zealand, Peru, Singapore, and Vietnam at the signing, which launches the formal start of the ratification process in many of the TPP countries.     This week, the Obama administration announced a new Treasury rule that authorizes additional U.S. exports to Cuba and permits the private financing of these exports in an effort to strengthen trade relations not controlled by the Cuban government. In a joint announcement with the Secretary of the Treasury, Commerce Secretary Penny Pritzker said the changes are designed to “strengthen civil society” in Cuba. Full story
