Market Overview
Ghana has a population of 29.3 million who is consuming more rice annually each year. Nearly 1 million tons are imported each year, mostly from India and Thailand. The United States used to be a major supplier to the Ghanaian market; however, exports were about $2.5 million in 2019.
USA Rice Activities
USA Rice initiated a promotional program here in 2019 to support the sales of U.S. rice in the foodservice as well as the urban consumer segment. Activities include seminars and activations for foodservice providers from the three largest cities, also called the Golden Triangle, of Accra, Kumasi and Takoradi.
