WASHINGTON, DC – The Commodity Futures Trading Commission’s (CFTC) Agricultural Advisory Committee (AAC) met today. Jason Wheeler, a grain merchandising specialist with White Commercial who represents USA Rice on the committee, participated in the meeting.
Participants heard presentations and discussed topics related to the agricultural economy including geopolitical and sustainability issues, as well as recent developments in the agricultural derivatives markets.
“Agricultural markets continue to demonstrate agility in adapting to geo-political tensions, extreme weather, and technology advancements and disruptions,” said CFTC Chair Rostin Behnam who sponsors the AAC. “I am committed to ensuring the derivatives markets, structures, and intermediaries that serve them continue to effectively and efficiently support the evolving needs and risk management practices throughout the agricultural value and supply chains.”
The AAC is an advisory committee that assists the CFTC in identifying and assessing issues affecting agricultural producers, consumers, processors, lenders, and other major market participants.
“On behalf of USA Rice, I want to thank the CFTC, particularly Chairman Benham, for convening this timely meeting to discuss relevant topics that are not only impacting the U.S. rice industry, but the agriculture industry as a whole,” said Wheeler. “This information allows us to build on our industry’s success as we continually strive to improve the rice futures contract.”
