ARLINGTON, VA – With sign-ups for the USA Rice-Ducks Unlimited-National Black Growers Council $80 million
Climate-Smart Commodity (CSC) grant approaching, the
podcast takes a deeper dive into the program.
USA Rice Director of Grower Relations and The Rice Stewardship Partnership Josh Hankins, who quarterbacked the CSC for USA Rice, joins co-hosts Michael Klein and Lesley Dixon to explain the history of the program and how it will work.
“Sign-ups are rolling out in the coming weeks, they’ll be evaluated, and we’ll get funding into the hands of rice farmers so they may begin implementing climate smart efforts as soon as possible,” Hankins said. “The fact we won’t have enough money to go around is a testament to how environmentally responsible U.S. rice farmers are and how important our industry is to addressing climate change, but it also means people shouldn’t wait to apply – get your application in as soon as possible.”
Sign-ups for Louisiana producers are open now through February 23.
Hankins also explained that the USA Rice CSC offers producers a suite of production practices so they can tailor a program that works best for their region and farm.
