Area planted for rice in 2016 is expected to total 3.06 million acres, 450,000 more than 2015, according to the U.S. Department of Agriculture National Agricultural Statistics Service’s Prospective Plantings report released today. Planted acreage is forecast higher for all six major rice-producing states. Mississippi is expected to have the largest percentage increase of 47 percent from 150,000 to 220,000 acres followed by Texas at 42 percent from 133,000 to 189,000 acres.
