    This past November and December, USA Rice participated in the Redner’s HealthCents program to encourage shoppers to ‘think rice’ during the holiday season. Redner’s dietitians promoted U.S.-grown rice in the company’s HealthCents magazine and weekly circular as well as in stores through displays and recipe demonstrations (see USA Rice Daily, November 23, 2015). The combined promotional activities at the Mid-Atlantic supermarket chain reached an estimated 1.2 million shoppers and contributed to a 47.6 percent lift in U.S. rice sales. Full story

    The U.S. 2015/16 all rice crop is projected at 192.3 million cwt, up 1.6 million from last month. Long-grain production is up 700,000 cwt to 133 million, and medium- and short-grain is raised 900,000 cwt to 59.3 million. The all rice production increase stems from both higher harvested area and yield. The all rice yield increased 47 pounds per acre to 7,470, and harvested area increased 5,000 acres to 2.58 million.     MEXICALI, MEXICO -- On December 14, 2015, USA Rice was notified that U.S. rice exporters were having their bagged rice shipments blocked by Mexican authorities here at this important west coast crossing point with Calexico, California. The Government of Mexico (GOM) had, overnight, changed inspection regulations on how railroads and GOM phytosanitary inspection officials cleared bagged commodities, resulting in a stoppage of bagged rice exports.
