The "old ways" are the best ways when it comes to whole grain consumption
Sep 26, 2023
ARLINGTON, VA – Oldways was founded in 1990 to promote healthy eating and drinking, encouraging a return to “the old ways” of diet.  Central to those old ways are whole grains, and in 2003, the Oldways Whole Grains Council was launched with USA Rice as a founding member.  Over the past 20 years, the partnership has expanded, and so has the American consumer’s understanding of whole grains.

Kelly LeBlanc, vice president of nutrition programming for Oldways, joins the newest episode of The Rice Stuff podcast, for a non-staff record third time to talk about the recently completed 2023 Whole Grain Consumer Insight Survey.

LeBlanc shares insights into consumer behavior and generational differences in whole grain consumption and what it all means for the rice industry.

Then co-hosts Lesley Dixon and Michael Klein are joined by Missouri/Illinois rice farmer Sam Schneider from his Inland Cape Rice Company mill and farm to talk nutrition.

Schneider is the newly appointed chair of the USA Rice Domestic Promotion Nutrition Subcommittee and a lifelong devotee of nutrition and wellness.  Sam talks about how he and his wife, Meagan, got into rice farming, the important nutrition messaging they want Americans to hear, and Sam’s recent experience testifying to the Dietary Guidelines Advisory Committee on behalf of the rice industry as the committee works to create the 2025-2030 Dietary Guidelines for Americans.

New episodes of The Rice Stuff are published on the second and fourth Tuesday of every month and can be found on Apple Podcasts, Google Podcasts, Spotify, Stitcher, and online at www.thericestuffpodcast.com.
